## Description

A very easy orchestra arrangement of a children’s song from the Philippines! Set for beginning strings, *Sasara Ang Bulaklak* (Close the Flower) is based on a Filipino song and game similar to the English nursery rhyme, Ring Around the Rosie. String players will practice the melody and accompaniment in straight and swing duple meter, all while using their first notes from the D-major scale.

The Filipino/Tagalog to English translation is below.

| ***Filipino/Tagalog:*** | **English:** |
| --- | --- |
| *Sasara ang bulaklak* | close the flower |
| *bubuka ang bulaklak* | open the flower |
| *iikot ang bulaklak* | spin the flower |
| *papasok ang reyna!* | enter the queen! |
| *Bum tiyaya, bum tiyaya, bum ye ye!* | Nonsense words |

This piece comes with teaching notes and instructions for how to play the game that accompanies this piece.

A more detailed description of the song and game, as well as other Orff-inspired lessons, can be found in the arranger, Tiffany Unarce Barry’s book, *Songs of the Sun: Filipino Folk Songs for the Musical Classroom*.
