Embracing Uncertainty in Music Education

Uncertainty is one of the only constants in life, and it creeps up on our professional lives in unexpected ways, often leaving teachers and students with feelings of unease or anxiety. In music education, we often face uncertainty with live performances, competitions, and other aspects of our job. However, uncertainty is not to be feared! Rather, it should be embraced by both teachers and students. Join us to learn more about recognizing and interacting with uncertainty in healthy and productive ways in music classrooms!

Happier Teacher: Like a Regular Teacher, But Happier

What would it take to be a happier teacher?  Luckily, this is possible and easier than we think!  Duhon will not give you the answers but will guide you through journaling and suggestions to process what small changes would improve the quality of your teacher life. From sugar, Sabbath and solitude to margin, martyrdom and musicianship, it is surprising what areas can affect our attitude and outlook. Just like minor corrections help keep a car on the road, small habit tweaks and micro-actions can take you from an unbalanced and overwhelmed music teacher to a happier music teacher.

Feeling Like An Imposter While Fostering Your Identity

Have you ever compared yourself to other teachers? You look at the teachers around you and feel like everyone else has it figured out.  You feel like you’re not as capable as they are and constantly doubt yourself or your abilities.  While you’re wrestling with what you believe about yourself, you’re also figuring out who you are and who you want to be.  In this session Jessica shares how you can face your feelings of being an imposter and build your identity inside and outside of the classroom.  Learn strategies and tools for trusting yourself where you are while growing your identity and belief in yourself along the way.
