My SpEd students love the song that goes with this book & adding visuals in a book format, completely enhances their engagement level. The words repeat often, which allows the students the ability to catch on and start joining in at their level. When the song changes, they are able to work on academic skills like counting, rhyming and identifying body parts.
This book is a must have for music therapists and music educators who work with prek and early elementary students!

This book is an absolute must for early childhood educators. Whether you are a music teacher or a classroom teacher this book is easily used during circle or music time. Or add it to your collection of books and the kids will be able to follow along with it themselves.
The illustrations are wonderful and the print is simple and easy to follow along with the song by Stephanie Leavell. I love how there’s no tricky page turns as sometimes when you have a book that goes with a song it can be hard to follow along when you have to worry about turning the pages mid-phrase.
My preschool and TK kids love this song and now they are so excited to have a book to go with it. As an educator, I’m excited to use the additional resources to extend it into a deeper lesson.

I have already used the song Watermelon, Watermelon in my classes and my students have LOVED it! Adding the stunning visuals not only provides another learning tool for students that learn in various ways, but it also really helped my students that are not english speakers grasp concepts and participate in ways that they were unable to before.
I recommend this book not only for music teachers, but for all teachers who teach young students. Its fun, education and beautiful.

I have been using “Watermelon, Watermelon” with my students for the last few years in my music classroom and music therapy sessions and am so excited about the song book release. Since I work with very young children, a visual aid is so important in helping concepts become concrete. The kids laugh at the visuals in this book and get so excited that the watermelon is eaten more each page. Everything Stephanie Leavell is involved in is GOLD!

As a music therapist and homeschooling mom, I can’t recommend Watermelon, Watermelon by Stephanie Leavell enough! The singable, repetitive rhythm is perfect for engaging young children while supporting early language and motor skills. My daughter loves the body percussion video that is available on YT too!
The colorful illustrations grab my students’ attention, and my toddler loves pointing to the objects on each page. It’s become a favorite in both my therapy sessions and homeschool routine for reinforcing literacy through music. Simple, fun, and perfect for parents and educators who may not feel confident singing.
