About the Authors
Mia Ibrahim (they/them) was a queer, Middle Eastern high school music educator and department head in the south Bronx of New York and a PhD Student at the University of Kentucky. They served on the Board of Directors for the Association for Popular Music Education and as chair of the development committee. Mia graduated with their Master’s in Music Education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and had a long history of working with marginalized communities, starting with a music therapy apprenticeship at rehabilitation centers and brain injury centers in the Bay Area of California…learn more here–>
Ashley Shabankareh (she/they) is a New Orleans musician, music educator, and arts administrator. Ashley received her M.M. and B.M.E. from Loyola University, New Orleans, with a concentration on conducting and brass instruments. Ashley is a certified K-12 music educator and spent her early years in New Orleans teaching PK4 through 8th grade students. They transitioned from full-time music instruction to assist in the creation of the curriculum and program guidelines for the Tulane University Music Rising Program..learn more here–>
