Do you remember those nursery rhyme jingles when you were young? I am certain that if I asked you to recite “This Old Man”, many of you might 1) know the jingle and 2) could spout off a few lines of the rhyme. I certainly loved them as a child and was excited to pass the nursery rhyme tradition down to my three children as well. As a child, I just loved hearing my mother sing them to me.

Now, as an adult, I realize the educational aspect that they hold as well. The rhyming, inflection, memorization, and language development are a few of the benefits I witnessed through reading and singing nursery rhymes to my children. In conjunction with nursery rhymes, Christmas carols, and other holiday songs also hold true to those benefits. They are listened to during one season of the year, yet most of us can repeat them at the drop of a dime. Enter “This Snowman”.

My son, Brady, at the ripe age of 2, was playing with his toys when he started singing “This Old Man”. However, instead of saying “This Old Man”, he happily sang “This Snowman” and the idea for the book was born. Let it be known that I love Christmastime. A lot. There is something about the spirit of Christmas that just makes the world seem better. So, my love of Christmas went into overdrive with creating a Christmas-themed nursery rhyme book.

The pandemic was my opportunity to make this idea come to life. I researched the rhymes I wanted to tackle and began the creative flow process of writing “This Snowman”. Thirteen rhymes later, the book was created. My friends, illustrator Ryan Markowitz and singer Chelsea Stanell, were on board with this project and in November of 2022, publication commenced. “This Snowman” is a wonderful and whimsical collection of thirteen classic nursery rhyme tunes that we know and love with Christmas themes. Songs like “This Snowman”, “Ho Ho Santa”, “Little Man Sam”, and “Mary Had A Little Boy” will bring out the Christmas spirit in everyone and be a solid addition to any Christmas book collection.
