Michelle Rose

Dr. Michelle Rose is a music educator, author, and researcher. She currently teaches at Carolina University, Central Carolina Community College, and Forsyth Technical Community College. She is also a Teaching Artist for the Young Musicians of Alamance and serves as the Director of Curriculum Development at Pitch Publications.

Prior to her current positions, Michelle had experience teaching in brick-and-mortar and online settings. She has taught elementary and secondary general music, high school band, and middle and high school choir. Michelle is a pioneer in teaching music online at the K-12 level. Since 2017, she has started middle and high school music programs at two virtual schools. She also founded virtual instrumental and vocal ensembles, through which she developed a method for rehearsing ensembles online. Her experience teaching online helped numerous music educators across the globe adapt to emergency school closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Michelle has served as a mentor for teachers who are beginning their careers, teachers who are new to online education, and undergraduate music education majors. She is the author of the best-selling book F-Flat Books: Teaching Music Online: A Comprehensive Guide for K-12 Music Educators, which she wrote to help teachers transition into online music education. Michelle holds a B.S. in Music Education and a B.A. in Music Performance from Elon University and a M.M. in Music Education and Ph.D. in Music Education from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She lives in North Carolina with her favorite human, Wesley, and her favorite dog, Tovy (short for Beethoven). In her free time, she enjoys baking, sewing, and carpentry.
